Mobility Master Plan Community Workshops

The last workshop is tonight. It doesn’t matter where you live in the City. Come on out and join the conversation.

The City of Tacoma is in the process of developing a Strategic Mobility Master Plan with the goal of developing a comprehensive network of transportation choices across the entire city. The plan will document the goals, policies and implementation strategies for multimodal transportation in Tacoma that will be reviewed by the City Council for anticipated adoption in June 2010.

Curious? Interested? You are invited to participate in the first community workshops to help craft the Mobility Master Plan. Join us to discuss the existing conditions and opportunities to improve Tacoma’s bicycling and walking environments, as well as connections to transit.

Key questions include:
Where are Tacoma’s vital corridors?
Where are the connectivity gaps?
Is Tacoma headed in the right direction?

Do you have an opinion? Join the conversation!

Awesome. I’m eager to get involved. By the way, that picture is great! Where is it from?

By the way, that picture is great! Where is it from?

The photo was provided to us by the City. Here’s what they sent us for details:

    Date: 02-11-1940
Description: Three teenage boys on bicycles watch construction of the first Narrows Bridge from a hill to the southeast of the east approach. The bridge, later commonly called “Galloping Gertie,” would open on July 1, 1940 only to collapse in a wind storm just over four months later. (T. Times)

Those that would plan for Tacoma’s future would be well served by going through the Richards Studio collection at the library. It would seem that the Tacoma we have always wanted has existed in the past and was allowed to decay and be torn down.

Awesome picture. Makes me want to go ride my bike down the Scoot Pierson trail and eat one of those delicous donuts on 6th while overlooking the Narrows.

Congrats to the Post and Beam folks for preserving the 705 gulch corridor which will prove to be a central link in Tacoma, and Pierce County’s, trail network.

The Pierson Trail, the Water Ditch Trail, the Prairie Line, the Foothills Trail, the Waterfront Esplanade, and the Mount Rainier Trail will all come together here in an auto and truck friendly manner – hopefully all starting to become clear about the time the Lemay Museum opens.

That said, if the Cascade Land Conservancy tries to take credit for this one, you will have one pissed camper here, but that’s another story.

D’oh! Can’t make this meeting, but am interested in getting involved in the transportation planning process. Will there be any more community forums? What are some other ways to be heard? I was both impressed (with the speed of response) and confused (by the response itself) when I pinged the City last week about proposed bike lane striping on 30th in Old Town.
