More Demolitions Coming - From Filthy 15
A benevolent tipster has pointed out to us that the building at 612 Tacoma Ave. South is scheduled for demolition per the Filthy 15 website. This property has had its problems over the years with drugs and the homeless, but it’s still a piece of history and it will be a loss. What is it that we’ll be losing? This buidling was one of the earlier multi-family homes on the hill above downtown. It was built in 1889 as a double house. In 1905 the two family home was diced up into apartments as were a lot of the large multi-family homes in the city at this time. Our tipster stated that the home ”...looks like a cool building. It has that Southern look.. Could have been in New Orleans or something.” Maybe its time has come. Maybe we’re just too lazy to have a good fix.
What will be built in its place? Any guesses? Condos from what we hear.

WTH – this meeting is scheduled at the same time that the Central Neighborhood Council’s regularly-scheduled monthly meeting will be happening at the Nature Center (6pm)! I just called and left a voice mail with the contact person in the Planning Dept. that they should reschedule this community meeting so the people who are actively working in this area can attend! This is about the poorest “planning” that I can imagine!

Of note, Planning Staff will be making a presentation to the CNC at their February meeting. The Febraruy meeting is a great opportunity for the CNC and neighbors to have a more in depth conversation with staff about this planning process. The Community Meeting is just the beginning of this year-long project. Stay tuned for future opportunities to learn more and get involved.
