Mother Earth Farms Draft Horse Plow

This Saturday, April 7, the Emergency Food Network’s Mother Earth Farms will host the farm’s annual draft horse plow to celebrate a new year of planting and growing. Several teams of draft horses and their drivers will plow the fields in preparation for the spring planting of crops that will feed the hungry throughout Pierce County.
The eight-acre property in Puyallup became Mother Earth Farms in 2000. The farm grows more than 40 varieties of vegetables, and is home to fruit trees and berry bushes as well. At harvest, more than 150,000 pounds of food annually is delivered fresh to programs around the area, providing invaluable fresh, organic, nutritious food. Bees kept on site pollinate the plants and produce honey, which is also harvested. It’s always a treat to see such a beautiful working farm.
The Mother Earth Farms property is a beautiful setting, and the EFN is a great asset to Tacoma and Pierce County. Much of the work done on the farm is thanks to volunteers, so if you’re inspired by this event, you can most likely find an excuse to come back to play in the mud and fresh air more often.
