Motopony, True Margrit, and The Legend of Bigfoot on Saturday

Several people have asked us to write up the Motopony / True Margrit show at Bob’s Java Jive coming this Saturday. So, we asked Daniel Blue for more info and he sent us this:

This Saturday will be Motopony’s first show in Tacoma as a fully realized 4 piece band.  Starting in April, I slowed down playing live shows solo and got serious about producing an album.  Buddy Ross and Barton Carroll, both Seattle musicians with multiple albums of their own, helped me pare down my 30 or so three string songs to this fully orchestrated golden 9 (we even wrote some along the way).  Buddy liked the songs so much he and some friends ended up joining the band.  We’ve spent the last few months wrapping up the album, building the band and working on our live show.  With our CD release around the corner on November 14th in the basement of Urban Grace, we thought it would be prudent to give people a sneak peek as well as cut our teeth on Tacoma’s unique brand of audience participation.

Doors at eight never means “starts at eight”, it means that’s when they open the doors to people for this particular show. The opening band will start when there is crowd enough to see them, the Jive is just all loosey-goosey like that on show times.  We are headlining this show, which means we play last, so if you come to see us, plan on sticking it out (though True Margrit and The Legend of Bigfoot are well worth your $5).  Its usually up to the touring band (True Margrit) to choose if they want to open or play second.  Most of these things get ironed out the night of at a dive like the jive.

In the past, I’ve tried to make shows go according to some schedule I had told people, and you know what, turns out I’m not in charge. The best way to get the first band to play in a timely manner is to show up in force and start demanding ROCK!  No one wants to open to an empty room.

True Margrit will be about midway through their Northwest tour supporting their new album “the jugglers progress”.  Based in San Fransisco, Margrit’s music is smooth and punchy and swells like the cry of ringmaster demanding you understand how difficult the trapeze really is.  Multiple vocalists crescendo through piano driven ballads reminiscent of Ben Folds and late era Queen.

Everyone within the sound of my voice should go see Daniel Blue and Motopony at Bob’s Java Jive. It may be our last chance to keep Daniel here. Everyone show up and let Daniel feel all the love the 253 can muster. The future of Tacoma is in your own hands. Do not let Daniel end up in Seattle or L.A.

Is Daniel basing his decision to stay or leave based on the number of people that show up to hear Motopony at Bob’s Java Jive. Or is this another Russell thing happening all over again. Has the Economic development Board been notified.

Let’s not screw this up Tacoma!

Isn’t this the kid from Bonney Lake?

He’s really trying to stay in Tacoma.

Don’t make him go back to Bonney Lake—-the land of plus-size women in flannel shirts, bib overalls, and Sears workboots.

    Don’t push him away.

Mr. Blue, after you drive the audience stark raving mad with your last number (the Tacoma song), play for your encore “Pushin’ Too Hard” by The Seeds.

Go to hear True Margrit- great pianist and her band from San Francisco- though the drummer lives in Tacoma. They are worth going to the Java Jive even if the smelly annoying monkey is gone- it is truly missed.

How can someone live in Tacoma and not go to the Java Jive? Probably never ate Almond Rocca either.

Chords, let’s hold one of our team-meetings there. And don’t despair; some nights finding something smelly and annoying is not a problem.
If he’s not at the Red Hot, haha!
