Museum of Glass Gets Curator
The Museum of Glass announced that Melissa G. Post will become the new curator. Post has previous experience at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York and the Mint Museum of Craft + Design in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The museum has been without a curator for several years, only having guest curators filling in from time to time. Spokesperson Susan Newsom said that since Executive Director Tim Close came to the museum in 2006, finding a permanent curator has been a priority.
Part of Post’s responsibilities will include managing the new permanent collection. Previously, the museum did not collect, save for a few pieces from visiting artists. Earlier this summer, though, the board voted to start collecting; part of Post’s job will be to figure out what exactly that means.
Post’s first day on the job is today. We wish her luck.
