Music, Music Everywhere

With a forecast of warm weather for the weekend, Murphy’s Law mandates a lot of fun things to do indoors. Such is life in the City of Destiny.

On the theater side of things, Tacoma Little Theatre is staging “Over the River and Through the Woods,” a musical show based on the Joe DiPietro comedy. The show runs at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays through Feb. 7 at Tacoma Little Theatre, 210 N. I St. Tickets are $16 to $24.

Tacoma Musical Playhouse has some musical theater with a bit more grit, as it presents “Rent,” a rock opera set in New York City’s artists community as it deals with AIDS, poverty, the complications of live and all things Bohemian. The show runs at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays through Feb. 14. Tacoma Musical Playhouse is located at 7108 Sixth Ave.

Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble offers local city dwellers a dash of East Coast harmony tomorrow at the Pantages Theater. The group was a child of the Civil Rights movement a generation ago and features one of the most awarded and noted dance troupes in the world. The show is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $29 to $65 and available at broadwaycenter.org.

For a trip out of town, you might want to go to the Capital City to check out Harlequin Productions’ “End Days,” or “Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at Capital Playhouse. Both shows look to be fun times in their own religious bent sort of way.

So, while the weather might be calling you outside these days, the entertainment schedule will be calling you can indoors. Enjoy the internal struggle.
