Narrows Bridge Toll Increase - By How Much?

Tacoma Narrows Bridge tolls will probably be climbing yet again this year, but the rates aren’t set yet. WSDOT will be undertaking a conversation with the public as it looks at setting the new rates, including a presentation of traffic and revenue forecasts for multiple rate scenarios at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Citizen Advisory Committee public workshop in Gig Harbor this week.

It may seem like the toll rates are constantly climbing (they’re going up again??), but actually, the rates have remained the same since summer of 2008, after an increase from the initial toll rates when the bridge opened in 2007. There have been various recommendations in the past to increase either the “Good to Go!” rates or the manual toll rates, or both, but since 2008, they have remained steady.

Future meetings on the topic, also in Gig Harbor, will take place on February 8th and 22nd. Meetings are open to the public, and you’re invited to participate in the public hearing scheduled for February 8th, or to submit comments online or via mail.

DOT should allow adventures to pay a couple hundred dollars to climb the narrows bridge to enjoy the view, Like they do at the Sidney Harbor Bridge.

June – Sept about 100 good days
    10 people per climb
    5 climbs a day
    5,000 people
@ $200 per person = 1 mil in revenue to pay off the bridge.

Contract out to a private adventure company to handle the logistics and insurance.

Bonus: A huge tourism kick!!! Much of tourism is unique options offered, not only the things that are done.
