Never Never Land is No More
Except for the weather-damaged figurines tucked away in a Metro Parks storage area, the once vibrant and colorful children’s theme park at Point Defiance is now completely demolished. When Never Never Land opened in 1964, it was a fantastical playland of meandering paths and fairytale characters set beneath the towering trees. Lately, it’s become a slightly creepy and unnerving example of civilization reclaimed by nature (and graffiti).
Crews removed the last remaining structures in Never Never Land last week. Metro Parks is tentatively considering a Native American interpretive center for the location, though no firm plans exist at this time.

I grew up in South Seattle, but I do remember Never Never Land. I’m sure we only went through a couple of times, but it stuck with me. If I ever win the bizillion dollar lottery, I will try to restore it.

Fuck Tacoma! The only thing that was ever cool about it was the urban decay and last man on earth vibe. Just leave shit alone and let the people do what they want with it!
