New Housing For East 25th
Do you remember our once-upon-a-time discussions of the old mattress factory building near Freighthouse Square? Landmark Tacoma 1, LLC, is moving ahead. They have proposed a mixed-use development at 725 East 25th St, with approximately 350 condominium units. The units would range from 500 sq. foot studios, to 1,500 sq. foot 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms. All units would have garage parking beneath the structure. The price range is $150,000 to $300,000. It’s heading before the City Council for its multi-family tax exemption in a few weeks.
The Dome District is changing… Drawings? Anybody?
A bit more information is in the tentative October 30th City Council agenda (pdf) on page 6.

Here’s what I received:
Due to some complaints I had received about the D Town Market at 751 Commerce we conducted an inspection. During the inspection we found numerous code violations, numerous life safety electrical issues and fire hazard issues. The power was terminated and the business closed until the violations can be corrected.

I noticed somebody finally yanked the payphone out from the corner. It’s about time.
And what’s up with the shady characters haning out in the “park” next to the ugly parking garage? It looks like they’re making drug deals all day long. Ironic since the park was named after a police officer. This is one park I wouldn’t mind letting go should the ugly parking garage get an extreme makeover. Please!

It is sad when one of the few thriving businesses in downtown is shut down. I imagine that the C&K market on St. Helens will pick up the slack, and they sell beer. BTW, the C&K is doing a bit of interior remodeling, business must be picking up already.

“One of the few thriving businesses” of which the owner personally told me is comprised of at least 70 percent drug dealers. I’d love for D Town Market to permanently “thrive” elsewhere.

I think 70 percent of the clientèle would be a bit high. Actually the clientèle may be high in general. I do think a better use could be made of this space. I guess that will happen as downtown picks up and more than drug dealers and their customers make up most of the population. I’d like to see a little operation on the corner like Dave’s meats and produce on N 21st there. Now that would indeed be a higher use, even drug dealers need to eat.
