New Leadership for the Tacoma Dome and Convention Center
The Tacoma Dome and the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center, along with other City assembly facilities are under new leadership.
The News Tribune recently interviewed Kim Bedier, Tacoma’s new Director of Assembly Facilities. Bedier, who took the reins in November, is from Nova Scotia, but comes to us most recently via the Comcast Arena in Everett.
When asked to describe how she sees her new position, she has this to say:
My job is the have the big picture for the two key facilities, to make sure the people have the resources they need. It’s my job to ensure the people there reach their full potential.
Although it’s still early in her tenure, Bedier shared a few ideas for Tacoma:
- A working partnership between the LeMay ACM and the convention center that would bring auto-dealer association meetings to Tacoma.
- Improved highway signage to Cheney Stadium.
- Finalizing the relationship with the Tacoma Regional Convention and Visitor Bureau. The TRCVB will focus on long-term sales for the event space, and the City will focus on the shorter-term, resulting in the elimination of two sales positions at the convention center.
The Tacoma Dome is coming up on its 30th anniversary, and the Convention Center is approaching the 10-year mark. With the Holiday Inn Express, and the McMenamins Elks project, downtown Tacoma will have a few more hotel rooms for conventions.
What would you like to see happen with the Dome and Convention Center in the next five, 10, 20 years?

Those seem like good common sense ideas. I’m glad she isn’t talking about pie in the sky NBA team dreams. I would be interested to know her strategy to compete with a new Seattle arena once it is built. I don’t think Lady Gaga, ACDC, or Kanye West will be coming to Tacoma, when that place is in operation, unless it is a game night. I hope there will be enough business to keep the place operational.
P.S. I would love to see the flower for Tacoma on the roof.
