New Love for Luzon
Michael Sullivan’s talk for Historic Tacoma last night included photos of several iterations of the Burnham designed Luzon building at 13th and Pacific. Then he ended discussion on that building with a, but it’ll all be okay… (no explanation). Today, the News Tribune is reporting a new life for the building:
One of downtown Tacoma’s most notorious and neglected eyesores, the historic Luzon Building, will begin a new life as a mixed-use apartment and retail structure next fall.
Michael Bartlett, an Oakland, Calif., developer, said he expects construction to begin late this month. The rehabilitated building will contain a total of eight apartments on the upper four floors. The lower two floors, one opening uphill on Commerce Street and the first floor on Pacific Avenue, will contain retail space.
Michael knew something and wasn’t sharing… It’s exciting to see something happening in this beautiful building. It’s been a while.
