New Online Tool for Public Works Projects

Tacoma residents now have access to an online tool that will give them a better picture of what’s going on with Public Works projects in their neighborhoods and around the city. At its April 17 study session City Council heard a brief presentation on the Gov-me online City Projects tool that will track the city’s many streets and utilities construction projects. The tool, which is now live for the public provides information to the public including scheduled start and end dates for individual projects.

The site currently lists and maps 66 projects that are active or scheduled through March of 2013. The public can search for projects by address, or by business, city council, or neighborhood district. An interactive map also allows the public to click on a location to see details of projects (identified by blue lines). Project information listed includes the project number and brief description, location, and a contact person with phone and email.

The tool, designed to give residents and businesses a way to plan around upcoming construction projects, and to provide information about work being done currently, went live yesterday. It’s not the prettiest site, but it seems fairly functional. What do you think?
