New Wing, New Collection for Tacoma Art Museum
The Tacoma Art Museum will be growing – thanks to a generous gift from Erivan and Helga Haub.
The News Tribune is reporting that the Haubs will be financing a new 15,000 square foot wing for TAM, essentially doubling the museum’s exhibition space. The new wing will house a 280 piece collection of Western American art, also donated by the Haubs. The donation is the largest in TAM’s history.
Plans are for the wing to be built along Pacific Avenue south of the current museum, over the parking lot below. The new wing will include new stairs and a new lobby, giving the museum what sounds like it will be a more welcoming front door than the existing layout. This, combined with the Pacific Avenue streetscape upgrades, should really change the face of that section of Pacific.
