No 4th of July in Seattle?

Not one to normally note problems in other cities …

Word began circulating this morning that the 4th of July fireworks show at Seattle’s Gasworks Park may be no more due to a lack of sponsorship. Seattle businesses are now rallying to try and save the event.

That said, Tacoma still has Freedom Fair and all are welcome.

With all the press about this, I’d be quite surprised if the necessary sponsorship isn’t rounded up quickly.

Of course, I think it would be hilarious if the City of Tacoma ponied up the $.

Seattle’s 4th of July fireworks show… brought to you by the City of Tacoma

Maybe we could set up a ticket booth and charge $10 for everyone from King County that shows up, $20 if they actually live in the City of Seattle. Free for all those from Pierce.

UPDATE: Russell Investments sponsors Seattle’s fireworks show!

  • Tacoma1 April 1, 2010

I’m thinking that all the Russell folks will still be down here watching our fireworks, and sponging off of us one last time. They haven’t left yet, and selling a McMansion in Gig Harbor isn’t as easy as it used to be.

Of course, even if they are gone, Seattle will find out that the word “community” can’t be found anywhere in their corporate dictionary.

    No white trash festival. Bummer.

  • Nick April 2, 2010

Actually, very few of Russell’s employees are sticking with the company. After those layoffs, the few that are left are pretty pissed about that decision.

Of course they’re upset. They get to sell their Gig Harbor mansions at a loss, and then pay more for less up in Seattle.

I’m sure that I’ll see many of them on the Sounder. There will probably be a few more beamers in the T-Dome station parking lot too.

Maybe Seattle should fund the fireworks with the money they want to spend on a glass museum at the Seattle Center…considering we in Tacoma have a wonderful glass museum already.

Looks like Seattle pulled off their little fireworks fund drive. It should be no surprise that Russell Investments is not on the list of donors.

Is this post supposed to be a bit of schadenfreude?

Too bad then that S Town pulled off its fundraising drive after all. I mean, how long would it take to drum up that kind of cash around here?

Oh, and this is just another indication that Chase is not WaMu. The region lost more than just a flagship corporation.

Anybody else notice their ATM fees going up, and the relative lack of Chase ATMs in Tacoma?
