No Confidence for Kleeberg?
According to our inbox and several other blogs, Calvin Goings has it out for Chuck Kleeberg, Director of Planning and Land Services, Pierce County.

Goings, a Puyallup Democrat who is running for county executive, has introduced a resolution calling for a council vote of no confidence in Kleeberg. The resolution also calls on County Executive John Ladenburg to remove Kleeburg from office.
From the Volcano’s Spew:
According to in depth and completely fabricated investigative journalism done by the Weekly Volcano, Goings also thinks Kleeberg has bad breath and spends too much time on Myspace.
We have no opinions on Mr. Chuck Kleeberg.

Goings has caused most of the problems in PALS since he joined the Council. As chair of the Community Development Committee, he spearheaded community plans, which allowed neighborhoods to create zoning classifications that did not exist in the main zoning code. This adds to the complexity of permitting by an order of magnitude. He regularly pulled money out of PALS budget for pet projects (Meridian Park, anyone? There he bailed out a church, but gave them a 10 year lease to keep using the amphitheater).
He regularly screws up PALS’ work plan with repetitive, short-fuse requests for information, maps, and demands to develop new comprehensive plan or development regulation language.
As for fees, do a public records request for his voting record, and see how many fees he’s voted for. This is the man who tied up 50% of conservation futures funding for 20 years. He has no problem raising fees or taxes, unless he is running for office.
This is the latest in a series of cheap stunts pulled by Goings to distract you from his lame 2 year long campaign sign postings, ethics laspes (Mailings, anyone?) and the fact that he has absolutely no qualifications as a manager or leader that even remotely qualify him to be County Executive.

Sounds like politics as usual for Tacoma/Pierce County. As soon as I read the news release I knew it smelled funny.
First thing that concerned me was that Goings went to the public before he went to the county exec (the person who can actually do something about the problems). It was unprofessional at best. Translation: publicity stunt.

I doubt that Mr. Goings is bringing this forward without talking with other council members first. So much for open and honest government.
Mr Goings campaign reminds me a lot of Rudy’s bid for president. Running early with perceived popularity, but when the voters really looked into his leadership, they dropped him like a gallon of sour milk.

I have no opinion of Mr. Kleeberg.
I was however a Logan/Knox class member permatemp with King County who was very definitely politically attacked by the Officers of the Court of Seattle’s Superior Court – an attack that continues to this day.
By coincidence I was the grunt who completed the first computerized parcel maps for unincorporated King County, including the resulting elections, zoning, and growth management products – an honors graduate of the conservative Department of Economics at the UW I was also a board member (and newsletter editor) for the Vision Seattle Group (founded by Peter Steinbrueck, among others – though I didn’t support Steinbrueck’s CAP initiative).
Building a great organization is tough, but it is the case that at Mr. Kleeberg’s level that is part of the job.
I can’t say about Mr. Kleeberg, and although I’m a supporter of Hillary over Barack it might not be bad to have a few of the fifty year old generation working as ‘VP’ to a few talented young black men of Barack’s caliber.
Perhaps Ron Sims could nominate someone for the Pierce County job?

My previous job was in the County’s communications department, and I worked regularly with Mr. Kleeberg on communicating an aggressive plan of improvements for their permitting process. I always found Chuck to be a stand-up guy and truly motivated to do right by the residents.
He’s in a heckuva tough job. If you don’t believe me, go into the Planning and Land Services office, just north of Costco, and see the workload he has to deal with.
On top of that, Chuck plays upright bass. What’s not to like?
Goings is misguided on this one.
