Nominate Tacoma / Pierce County for Google Broadband!

Google got a lot of press when it stated its intent to test a new broadband initiative in a few chosen communities.

We’re planning to build and test ultra high-speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the United States. We’ll deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. We plan to offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people.

And, as would be expected, everybody raised their hands looking for attention. Tacoma is no exception and many of us believe we’re the perfect test site for this initiative.

Click! Network and Rainier Communications/Pierce County have joined forces to make their pitch to Google. Check out the story from Pierce County TV.

Heh, if Google wanted to fan the Microsoft rivalry flames, picking a neighboring rival to Microsoftland would certainly do it. Go Tacoma! ;-)

Hey, Tacoma, do your part! The form takes, MAYBE 5 minutes to fill out.

    Thanks!

Aren’t we already America’s most wired city? I do agree, this would be huge for Tacoma, at least until the rest of the country catches up. How come Comcast is giving people faster speeds than Click!? Surely Click! can offer the same speeds as Comcast. In looking at our bid for Google fiber I’m sure they’ll look at how well Click! has served their users to date. I think Click! has been sleeping while Comcast has been at least improving their network for their users.

I thought it was about going local around here. And while I love the internet, would someone please explain to me why Tacoma should be full of high speed broadband? It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around. Are you saying we need to have something better than adequate, or is what we have inadequate? It just seems like it should be low on the priority list. If it should be high on the priority list, I’d like to be told why. Thanks.

The reason we should push for faster internet speed is to not only create additional competition, which could lead to lower prices and better service for those using other providers, but also would foster business development to take advantage of the higher speeds.

I filled out my questionnaire! Go Tacoma!

The Lincoln District/Jenny Reed Neigbors homes need 1 Gbps. C’mon Google – just do it.

Net-Venture had those problems, but now everything seems to be fine. I’ve had no problems since November.
