Narrows Bridge Toll Rate Increase
This Wednesday the Washington State Transportation Commission will be meeting in a Special Joint Work Session with the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Citizen Advisory Committee to discuss possible toll increases. Bridge tolls, which were designed to increase over time, have been at current rates since 2008, and are on track for increases as of July of 2012. The meeting will include a tolling update; discussion of revenue and economic challenges and forecasts, financial plans, rate setting for 2012, and next steps. The meeting is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, November 16 in Olympia, and is open to the public.
For details of the meeting, read the WSTC Agenda.
Curtis High School, Certified Green School
Curtis High School is the first school in Pierce County to be certified as a Level One Washington Green School. In order to reduce the school’s environmental footprint, students on the school’s Green Team conducted a rigorous assessment of the school’s waste production, and implemented recycling and composting interventions to make sure as little waste as possible makes it from the school into the landfill. They implemented the free web-based tools, resources and tools from the statewide Washington Green Schools program to achieve the first of five levels of Green Schools.
The school isn’t resting on its green laurels; they have their sights set on moving up a level. Their next target? They will be tackling energy efficiency next. Good job Curtis.
