Asia Pacific Cultural Center Arts Infusion
While you’re downtown this Saturday and Sunday to check out Polar Plaza, you may want to stop by the Convention Center to warm up and to see the Asia Pacific Cultural Center’s Asian Pacific Arts Infusion. The event will showcase the work of artists and craftsmen from our region whose work is “influenced by the arts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. More information on the Asia Pacific Arts Infusion Facebook event page, or the APCC website.
Apple Cup
In case you hadn’t heard, this Saturday is the Apple Cup. There will be more viewing parties around town than we could possibly list, at venues like the Harmon, but if you’re lucky enough to have tickets, think about taking advantage of Sound Transit’s special event day Sounder trains. Skip the traffic and parking hassle, don’t worry about having a drink or two to celebrate, and enjoy the company of other football fans. Who are we betting on to win this year, anyway?
World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day 2011 is coming up on December 1st, and this year it will be marked by the announcement of a significant collaboration between several Pierce County organizations:
After several years of absence of a comprehensive HIV prevention program targeting gay and bisexual men in Pierce County; Rainbow Center, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, and Pierce County AIDS Foundation are excited to announce a new coalition. This coalition is dedicated to re-committing our resources and services to gay and bisexual men in Pierce County for the goal of reducing HIV infections.
The collaboration will be marked by a day of free HIV and STD testing, an open house, and an official ceremony, all at the Rainbow Center on St. Helens. For more about the day, visit www.piercecountyaids.org.
Drive Safe
Beginning this weekend and lasting through January 2nd there are going to be increased DUI patrols on the roads out there in Pierce County. Of course we should all know better than to plan on driving after drinking, but this is just a little extra incentive to make good choices. So, if you’re headed somewhere this weekend, or any time this holiday season, be safe, make smart choices, and maybe keep the number for a local cab company handy, just in case.
