Food Drive to Honor Fallen Officers

Today marks the two year anniversary of the shooting of four police officers in a Lakewood coffee shop. It also marks the kick-off of a week-long food drive in their honor. Families of the four helped organize the drive, and will be helping collect donations this week as a way of turning their tragedy into something positive for the community. They’ve set a significant goal of 50,000 pounds of food and $50,000 to be donated to the Emergency Food Network. If you’d like to help them out, you can drop off your donation at the Lakewood Police Department, or at a Lakewood library or Forza coffee shop. More details from King 5.

Tacoma/Pierce County Coalition to Target HIV/AIDS

World AIDS Day 2011 is coming up on December 1st, and this year it will be marked by the announcement of a significant collaboration between several Pierce County organizations:

After several years of absence of a comprehensive HIV prevention program targeting gay and bisexual men in Pierce County; Rainbow Center, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, and Pierce County AIDS Foundation are excited to announce a new coalition. This coalition is dedicated to re-committing our resources and services to gay and bisexual men in Pierce County for the goal of reducing HIV infections.

The collaboration will be launched with a day of free HIV and STD testing, an open house, and an official ceremony, all at the Rainbow Center on St. Helens. For more about the day, visit www.piercecountyaids.org.
