Bates Food and Toy Drive
If your daily commute takes you down Yakima Avenue between 6:30 and 10:00 a.m., you may see some unusual between South 11th and Earnest S. Brazill. On Thursday and Friday mornings, Bates Technical College students will be raising money for their 20th annual Food and Toy Drive, accepting donations of cash, non-perishable food items, and toy donations. You may also see Bates’ Fire Service Students performing push-ups for cash donations. Last year’s drive raised more than $9,000. So, keep an eye out for them, give them some support, and if you’re so moved, give them a donation as well.
Free Friday at the Children’s Museum
This Friday, December 2nd will be the last first Friday of 2011, and also the last free first Friday at the Children’s Museum of Tacoma in their current space on Broadway. The old Children’s Museum location will be open through December 19th, and will reopen after the new year in their new location on the first floor of the United Way building at South 15th and Pacific on January 14th.
