Tacoma Ski and Snowboard Swap

It’s that time of year again, when all the skiers and snowboarders get a wistful look, and spend way too much time checking the weather reports. Any day now the slopes will be open. In the mean time, Tacoma Ski and Snowboard Swap is this weekend at the University of Puget Sound. Gear shops will be there, as well as your fellow skier/snowboarders looking to trade up their gear before the season gets going. The event benefits the UPS Ski Team. Details at www.tacomaskiswap.com.

Last Port bus tour of the year Nov. 18

The Port of Tacoma offers occasional tours open to the public. This is an opportunity to see the port equipment up close, and learn a little about goings on down on the Tide Flats. The last chance for 2011 is coming up on Friday, November 18th at 10:30 a.m. The tour is free, and children over age six are welcome, but reservations are required.

For more details, visit out the Port of Tacoma webpage.

Empty Bowls AND Vessels

The Emergency Food Network’s Empty Bowls is one of our favorite fundraisers. Every year local artists create hundreds of bowls for sale to the public for sale with all proceeds going to EFN, to help feed hungry families and individuals in our community. The event is a great opportunity to accomplish some early holiday shopping while supporting a worthy Tacoma non-profit. The bowls are each one of a kind, hand-crafted works, and shoppers can reward themselves with a tasty bowl of soup donated by one of several local restaurants.
