Buy City Property

The City of Tacoma is soliciting proposals from persons or entities (“Proposers”) interested in purchasing the South End Neighborhood Center located at 7802 South L Street.

A Request for Proposal (RFP) has been published inviting proposers to submit proposals for the acquisition of the South End Neighborhood Center.

To be considered, proposals must be submitted in accordance with the requirements of the RFP and NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 30, 2012. Proposals will be selected based on their compatibility with the neighborhood and the City’s goal to be a safe, clean and attractive community.

About the Process

This is not a typical bid solicitation awarding the property to the highest bidder. Instead, this RFP process will take into account the purchase price offered by proposers as well as the proposed future uses of the property. A proposal will be selected based on its compatibility with the neighborhood and the City’s goal to be a safe, clean and attractive community.

Proposals will be evaluated by a Selection Committees that includes at least one member of the public – as referred to the City by the South End Neighborhood Council.

Proposers will have to submit a Minimum Bid Amount that is consistent with market value as determined by an independent appraisal and proposers will have to agree to a covenant to use/develop the property consistent with their proposals for a five year period.

Anyone interested in buying a neighborhood center?

We’re always told there is a shortage of places for youth in the south end to engage in recreation. So why are we selling this youth recreation center? It’s a little beat up but the appraisal notes that it could be brought up to date by spending approximately $1.1M. This would include new roof and new HVAC systems. This is a lot cheaper than building a new youth center.IMO
