On the Market: Tacoma's Art House - A few strings attached

Not for the faint of heart.  Fixer property with great views!

You know it’s going to be a strange day when you see a story about a house in Tacoma on BoingBoing and several readers in Seattle all send you the same story via email.  I’m feeling a little out of touch this morning.

Tacoma's Art HouseThe art house on South Fawcett is for sale, but is due for demolition unless the owner can ‘… remove all illegal additions and restore house to its original condition.’  Right.  Remove a little trim here.  Swap out a window there.  It wasn’t supposed to end this way.  If you read the News Tribune story about the house you’ll find that the owner had some pretty grand plans of “…encasing in concrete and using as the core for a 500-foot office and condominium tower.”  Right.  The plans also included designs for an air tax, indoor pool, and an anti-terrorist design.  Yeah.  I had no idea.  While I don’t think I’d want this house as my next door neighbor, it has been cool to pass every once in a while, point it out to friends, and just say that Tacoma has an unusual art house.

This house has unfortunately been on Tacoma’s Filthy 15 since the site launched earlier this year.  We even mentioned this house specifically.  It’s a bummer to see it go this way.
