One Year of CityArts

Last year at about this time a new arts publication hit the streets. CityArts was on the magazine rack.
We heard some skepticism about the project from a few people before it got started (Cole at GritCity echoed that here). But we think it’s been a great addition to our local scene, actually. These last few issues, especially the design inside and out, have been top-notch. Who else loved the Art Chantry piece? Plus, you should definitely check out the RR Anderson interview and Beautiful Angle pieces in the latest issue – also online).
I wrote something for the latest issue and found the editorial team to be excited about Tacoma and its future.
Congratulations on your first year. We look forward to many more.
City Arts is available at many coffee shops and newsstands around downtown Tacoma.

This is a really good idea. I think most people familiar with most recent development in Tacoma will collectively shout, “it’s about time.” Too much development seems to have occurred in recent years that many would consider noncompliant with the intent of the comprehensive plan. By creating an urban design review committee, Tacoma will essentially be saying that it doesn’t only want to be a larger city, but also a more attractive one.
