Operation Pine Cone: Pierce County Preps for "The Big One"
Beginning next Tuesday, June 5, Pierce County Emergency Management will be participating in a two-day, multi-county catastrophic earthquake preparedness drill dubbed “Operation Pine Cone.”
Operation Pine Cone will allow municipal agencies to practice responses to a 7.1 magnitude earthquake along the Tacoma fault. The Operation is part of the larger “Evergreen Quake” exercise, which includes six counties. The exercises are intended to give the counties, cities, and other emergency response entities the chance to run through their procedures and work with each other to ensure a coherent response if the you-know-what should actually hit the fan.
Come to think of it, are you prepared?
The Evergreen Quake page has some links to resources for emergency preparedness, including some home-preparedness tips.
