Any investors out there want to get in on a kickass business idea? Slightly bigger church than what I’d been thinking, but the location is right…

It would make a sweet brewery. Belgian/European style focused maybe?

  • crenshaw sepulveda January 16, 2009

Not a good sign for the economy if the Baptists are going out of business.

  • Chad January 16, 2009

Good thing it’s not near Tacoma General . . .

  • Sarah January 16, 2009

    Exactly my thought Chad…

what kind of helicopter access does it have?
what kind of paperwork is involved in founding a religion?

  • Christine January 17, 2009

Mr/Ms (?) Anderson, I believe I may be interested in your new religion based on your previous posts…so long as it is also a brewery and I don’t have to read any bibles. As for helicopter access, ironically the closest helipad is at Tacoma General. Go figure!

Good thing it’s not near Tacoma General…

I’m adfraid it soon will be.

That would be a great pub. Bring a whole new meaning to “going to church.” How uplifting.

I’m not nearly as religious as I was brought up to be, but this still makes my stomach turn.

  • RR Anderson January 17, 2009

  • MattonGrant January 17, 2009

Please, someone tell me it will take millions to bring up to code.
Its even got a pipe organ….
I think I may be ill.

@3: Last I talked about it with folks from 6th Ave. Baptist, they weren’t going out of business, just out of the building.

  • Jesse January 18, 2009

Yet another sweet location for McMenimins.

Sucks for the Baptists though. I do hope it stays intact.

  • J. Cote January 18, 2009

Some City Hall wonk will allow it to be bulldozed for a strip mall or a Multicare “Doc-in-the-Box”.
Did someone say a brewery??? I just threw up in my mouth a little.

@21: Suh-weeet! We don’t have one of those.

  • Thorax O'Tool January 19, 2009

I still can’t help but wonder why the Baptists are selling the church.
    Declining collections revenue?
    Massive foundation issues?
    Declining congregation?

I don’t mean to sound snarky, but churches tend to not get sold without good reason.

  • Jesse January 19, 2009

It’s not the church structure/building that make it holy. It’s the church goers, what they do inside, and the conversations with god that go on inside. If you believe in god, you know he sees what you’re up to whether you’re at church or not.

Jesus himself was a wine aficionado of sorts. What makes alcohol a sin is when you abuse it… in my opinion… anywho…

  • Thorax O'Tool January 19, 2009

Yet there certainly is a certain taboo for a lot of folks living/eating/whatever in a former church.

  • You're Welcome January 19, 2009

    I dunno. Monks do it.

  • Jesse January 19, 2009

I agree Thorax… maybe I’m too liberal for my own good.

    I dunno. Monks do it.

Actually, I think they live in the cloisters.
Although, given the amount of time spent praying, you could argue that they practically live in the church.

    @ Mofo…
    When will services be?
    Count me in!

In the middle ages when water was not always potable everyone, children, nuns, blacksmiths, priests, farmers drank at least 1 gallon of beer per day.

Monks, during periods of fasting (from food) had special beer that they brewed in order to sustain themselves. These are still around today. Many are still brewed by monks. I think Chimay is one of those. There are many knock offs too.

If this church converted to a MONASTARY, I would walk from the house I bought recently and join. I’ve become accustomed to living like a monk.
