Pac Ave Streetscape Open House and Groundbreaking

If you’ve got an address on Pacific Avenue north of 17th, you probably got the invite, but for those of you who don’t, or who missed it, there’s going to be an open house for the Pacific Avenue Streetscape project.

Wednesday, November 7, at 6:00 p.m., you can bring your Pac Ave Streetscape-related questions to the Tacoma Municipal Building, where City staff and contractors will be present with answers.

The project will cover the 10 blocks of Pacific between 7th and 17th, with limited construction beginning next month. Construction will then shut down for the holidays, resuming January 2, 2013. The goal is to have the project wrapping up this time next year, completed by Thanksgiving 2013.

A piece of good news about this project is that the plan is for two-way traffic and pedestrian access to businesses to be maintained at all times.

Phase 1: Between South 7th and 9th

  • Filling in 2 vaulted sidewalks

  •
  • Installation of new sidewalks, landscaping, raingardens and catenary lighting

  •
  • New cobblestone intersection at South 8th (8th will be temporarily closed)

More on this phase, as well as phases 2 and 3, will be available at the open house, or find more background at www.CityofTacoma.org/PacAve

There will also be a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, November 5, at 9:30 a.m. at Fireman’s Park, with a reception to follow at the Tacoma Art Museum.

So, any questions?
