Paesan Kitchen: A New Restaurant on the Foss
There are few things we enjoy more than good outdoor dining. Things we enjoy also include good pizza and Italian wines, so we were excited to learn that the guys responsible for The Social are going to be bringing us another Tacoma dining option.
According to an article in the Volcano, Paesan Kitchen & Bar will offer wood-fired pizza from an open kitchen in the space on the first floor of Thea’s Landing once occupied by the Dock Street Sandwich Company. The space will be family friendly, with a small bar serving a selection of beers, Italian wines, and Italian inspired cocktails. And (our favorite part) they plan to have outdoor seating in the warmer months with those same fire pits we’ve enjoyed at the Social around the corner. In keeping with the Italian feel, the new restaurant also plans to open early – maybe as early as 6:00 a.m. – to serve espresso and maybe even pastries to morning commuters.
Really good outdoor dining in Tacoma can be challenging to find with our east-facing downtown and the often chilly breezes off Commencement Bay. The fire pits and sheltered location on the Foss have made the Social an enjoyable outdoor dining spot for lunch and dinner for quite a few months out of the year. Sipping an espresso at an outdoor table sounds like a great way to enjoy a little bit of Italy in Tacoma. And if the food at Paesan Kitchen is as good as the braised short ribs we enjoyed on our last visit to The Social, they may be seeing a lot of us.

I welcome all good food establishments in Tacoma and always support by trying them out, but how many more wood-fired pizza and hamburger joints are we going to get. It would be great if we started to get some good cuisine in here. What do you folks think the biggest issue is in not having great food here that does not constitute a burger, or pizza?

Ok, so we have burger, burger, liquor, cheese, meat/burger, fish, burger/fish, fish, more fish, burger, Italian fish, fish, fish house, see my point. All these places are very good, but we need a more inventive variety.
