Panamonica's Closing!

What’s the next thing for that stretch of downtown near the library and the courthouse? We found Red Kelly’s place with all its funk and weirdo blue hair coolness just a few months before it closed. Then we moved down the block to Panamonica’s with its younger crowd, hipper drinks, cooler music, and a deck overlooking the city. The place gave us hope that a little hipness would come to downtown in the evenings. It looks like we’re moving on again. This from an email:

THIS UNFORTUNENTLY is the LAST week PANAMONICA’S will be open. Their last day will be on this Saturday the 23rd of July…

IF you haven’t made it out in awhile, I hope to see you at least come out for out last shi-bang! Come support the dream one last time. We would LOVE to share this last week with YOU! YOU ALL are who supported us and kept us open as long as we have. WE THANK YOU from the bottom of our souls!

While it wasn’t always our scene, these are the types of places that Tacoma needs to see make it. Young business people opening their dream and trying to make it work with a little character a flair should be embraced. The deck on a warm summer evening was one of the best places to be in Tacoma. I don’t know the specifics of why Panamonica’s is going away. The email doesn’t give any explanation other than a vague, “… but with the economy the way it is in this market, we just aren’t able to keep the doors open.” Whatever the reason, it’s a shame to see them go.
