Pierce County Dems Reveal Their Auditor Picks
A couple weeks ago, as you may recall, the Pierce County Council adopted emergency procedures to fill the soon-to-be-vacant Pierce County Auditor role. Their belief being that the position, made non-partisan in 2007, needs to be filled using new non-partisan procedures. And, if you remember, the Pierce County Democrats have issues with this procedure since Pat McCarthy was originally elected as a Democrat and, according to the PC Dems, her term should be filled by a Democrat. With that in mind, and ignoring the recently enacted procedure, the PC Democrats met on Saturday to come up with their list of three candidates to replace Pat McCarthy. Their choices are (in order):
- Katie Blinn – Assistant Secretary of State for the Secretary of State’s Office.
- Julie Anderson – Tacoma City Council
- Beckie Summers – Former vice chair of the Pierce County Democratic Party. Tacoma Library Board.
The names will be delivered to the County Council. Then … well, we’ll see.

Wasn’t Mike Lonergan interested in the position? Do they still have the job posted on craigslist?

This state definitely needs more Democrats in power. Those pesky Republicans are all over the place in State and local government!

What a selection of nit wits. Katie is the only one who has a resume. The rest are rotating job seekers who can’t keep a job long enough to post it on craigslist.

Trust me, I’ve seen the balance of the list – the Democratic list is far and away the top of the applicant pool if you consider all 22 contenders. Most of the ones we got weren’t even from Pierce County!

Again, all nit wits. Tim just because you got the low totem pole of candidates doesn’t mean you select a cat who changes shades to meet your so called Dem “of the week” mark. Suggest you find real applicants. Not the “o’h I need another job” to add to my resume career folk. These applicants are real losers. You’re asking your constituents to approve a person who worked in the office of secretary of state vs. someone who got fired and then filed for every job to fill the role of “non-profit person of the month” vs. someone who really has credentials to run as auditor? Please don’t go the party line and stoop to “ I gotta fill my plead and vote for another LOSER for PC auditor. You will then stoop to the level of the more obvious. A woman who changes shoes more than mens shorts to fill her XXX fix! Nick

Dear Nick,
If the “real applicants” don’t apply, then I cannot work to appoint them can I? Winner need be present in this contest.
I also respectively disagree with your characterization of Katie and Julie. Both of them are qualified candidates for this position and I can see either of them successfully performing the job.
Keep in mind that whomever is chosen by the council will be vetted by the voters twice. The first time to retain the seat in 2009 and again in 2010.
BTW, if you feel you can do a better job, then by all means apply. =) The deadline is January 5th.

Katie Blinn is the best pick. She will do a great job for the people of Pierce County. I am so thrilled she has applied
