Plans for Ruston Way Fire Station Continue

Today’s Tacoma City Council’s Public Safety and Human Services Committee meeting is expected to receive an update on the Ruston Way fire station. According to the Tacoma Daily Index the $4.1 million renovation of the fire boat dock and station could begin as soon as September. The money is coming from a 3 year old bond and a federal port security grant. Back in January there still seemed to be some question as to whether this work would move ahead. Peter Callaghan at The News Tribune questioned the timing of the work given the current fiscal situation while an uphill neighbor planned to lodge a complaint against the proposed work. Now, it seems, progress is being made. First up – seismic and structural retrofitting.

What a boondoggle… twist the purpose of the building from a firehouse to some kind of security need just to get Federal FEMA money to build it. What a terrible approach this city is doing over and over… really sorry for anyone with children who will be the ones to pay for this completely irresponsible spending.

… and accepting Federal money always comes with attached conditions which this city seems to ignore… and which will most certainly catch up to them someday.
