Polar Plaza Returns to Downtown Tacoma

You may have noticed the work going on downtown at 17th and Pacific in preparation for the moment when Tollefson Plaza once again transforms into Polar Plaza for the Winter 2014 season starting November 21. The ice skating rink returns for another season thanks again to Franciscan Health and Tacoma Art Museum, along with other local businesses.
Skaters can look forward to a month and a half of skating, with live music on Saturdays, a broomball tournament, and other special events. The Children's museum of Tacoma is sponsoring special Sunday morning children's skate times for the little ones to learn to skate, and the Seattle Thunderbirds will show up Thanksgiving weekend for a special session.
The rink will be open every day from the November 21 opening through January 11, with the exception of Thanksgiving day. Hours of operation vary, so you will want to check the website for a particular day.
No word yet from Two Five Trees on whether the downtown Christmas tree lot will be setting up shop in Tollefson Plaza again this year.
If you find yourself chilly after ice skating, you may want to check out the Tacoma Art Museum's new wing and Western Art exhibit, or just enjoy the new cafe and free, hands-on art studio.
