Polar Plaza Returns to Tollefson
Polar Plaza will be returning again this holiday season, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.
For six weeks this winter Tollefson Plaza will once again be transformed into the winter wonderland called Polar Plaza, and this year it’s going to be 20% bigger. Franciscan Health and the Tacoma Art Museum are once again sponsoring the open air ice rink.
Along with bigger and better fun on the ice, this year the Polar Plaza Express will add a short “train” ride to the festive fun. December 21 through 24 and 26, for $2 each way, your inner child can hop on board the express for the ride from the Washington State History Museum to the Tacoma Art Museum.
The plaza will include hot drinks to warm up with, and 25Trees will once again be selling Christmas trees in the plaza. Special themed nights will return again this year too. And if you’re feeling the holiday spirit already, now’s the time to sign up to volunteer or as a sponsor to help the event sponsors make Polar Plaza a magical place for the 18,000 skaters they hope to welcome this year.
We’re sure we aren’t the only ones looking forward to another year of one-stop holiday fun in downtown Tacoma. We’ll let you decide for yourselves if 20% bigger means 20% more fun.

People are going to pay $4 round trip to ride a pretend train for one block?
