Polar Plaza
There’s going to be a lot going on down in Tollefson Plaza this holiday season…

Friday November 25th marks the opening of the Polar Plaza ice skating rink, which will be open through January 2nd.
The skating rink will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25th, with live music from 80s cover band Big Huge starting at 7:00 p.m. And Christmas trees will be available again this year from Two Five Trees – they’ll be in Tollefson from November 25th through December 20th. For details on tree sales, check out the Local Life Tacoma website.
Saturday, November 26th is the official celebration of the opening of Polar Plaza, starting at 4:30 p.m. with skating with Santa, ribbon cutting by Mayor Strickland, a figure skating performance, and music.
Monday, December 5th, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. you’ll have the chance to join the Seattle Thunderbirds on the ice (along with their mascot) at Polar Plaza. This sounds like it’ll be a fun opportunity for any aspiring hockey players out there.
And of course you can skate the ice any day between now and New Year’s.

The Tacoma Art Museum and Franciscan Health Systems are the main sponsors of Polar Plaza, but quite a few other organizations have chipped in to help this become a reality, along with community members who have lent their support and energy. We’re excited to see it all come together, and there are a lot of events in the works to look forward to over the next month.
If you or your organization are interested in helping spread the joy, according to the Tacoma Art Museum page “There are still opportunities for members of the community to get involved with supporting Polar Plaza. For more information about participating as a sponsor, call 253.722.2460 or email PolarPlaza@TacomaArtMuseum.org.”
