Police Union Votes to Save Jobs
Last night the police union voted overwhelmingly to give the green light to concessions that would avert proposed layoffs from among their ranks, according to a TNT article. This vote supports an agreement for the union to accept a package of concessions in exchange for saving up to 60 police jobs. Details aren’t public yet, but City Council should be hearing today about the agreement hammered out last week between the City and union bargaining teams.
This vote will only cover the police part of the public safety jobs equation. Firefighters are scheduled to vote on the concessions January 26 and 27, a week after the January 20 deadline for layoff notifications to go out.
