Port Public Access Plan Survey - Tell Them What You Think

There’s a lot of talk going on right now about the Shoreline Master Plan (including at last night’s City Council session).  The Port of Tacoma is a big part of that conversation, and they are in the process of developing a public access plan, which they expect to complete by June 2012.  Waterfront developments are required to provide a certain degree of “public access” to the water.

Definition of public access

Public access is defined as the ability of the public to reach, touch and enjoy the water’s edge, to travel on the waters of the state, and to view the water and the shoreline from adjacent locations [Washington Administrative Code 173-26-221 (4)(a)].

With that definition in mind, the Port is asking for your input in a (very) brief survey.  We visited the survey website, and learned about a few existing access points that we didn’t know about.

If you have opinions you’d like to share, or if you’re curious about the Port’s current and future public access plans, visit www.portoftacoma.com.
