Port Smokestack Prepping For Fall
Back in 1993, the day after I got back to school from winter break but before classes had begun, I rode my bike from my dorm at UPS to Ruston. The event was the demolition of the Asarco smokestack and it was a regular old fashioned street party. Every street, yard, and field was filled with people. The entrepreneurs of the bunch had things to sell. The rest of us were merely spectators hoping for a show. Little did we know we would still be talking about that demolition day.
Back to today – The News Tribune is reporting that a 500 foot tall smokestack in the Port of Tacoma is being prepped for its own demolition day. Tall buildings and explosives…. Always fun.
Update: Photos online here.
