Post-Holiday Recycling

Recycle your Christmas tree
Tacoma residents may recycle Christmas trees for free by dropping them off at the recycling center at the Tacoma Landfill (3510 S. Mullen) between December 26 and January 21. Your other “free” disposal option is to cut your tree up to fit in your yard waste bin with the lid flat. Decorated or flocked trees cannot be recycled. Trees left next to containers will not be recycled. Customers with questions about Christmas tree recycling may call (253) 591-5543, or visit the City’s Garbage and Recycling page.

Recycle your Christmas lights
The Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium is teaming up with the Girl Scouts of Western Washington to give you a green option for recycling strings of Christmas lights. You can drop your old Christmas lights off in designated bins at the Zoo’s main entrance, and other locations, including Northwest Trek, Metro Parks Headquarters, the Tacoma Nature Center, the Center at Norpoint, People’s Community Center, and a number of Girl Scout locations as well. For details and a full list of drop sites, visit the zoo’s webpage.

… and don’t forget, as you’re making room for new gifts, a number of organizations around town would be happy to make use of the gently used items your closets can no longer hold.

Well, did we miss anything? Are there any other seasonal recycling programs in or around Tacoma?
