Predicting Tacoma via Markets
So, a few of us having been playing some games lately in order to try and predict the outcomes of events around town. The game works like a stock market. If we think something’s going to happen, we purchase virtual stock in that event. If we think something’s not gong to happen, we short and/or sell the virtual stock. Prices then go up or down depending on what people think.
Questions range from the County Executive race, Russell’s office decision, the latest escapades of Mr. Hill to our weekly bocce results. Any event or decision that has a yes/no answer or a single correct answer can be entered into the marketplace. Individuals start with $5000 virtual dollars and are ranked for their daily, weekly, and all-time results.
Unfortunately, with just a few dozen people, the game doesn’t change very quickly. So, we’re opening up to all of you.
Here’s the catch. We’re using an outsourced service to run these prediction markets. We have four weeks left on the software trial. Once the trial is over, it’ll cost Exit133 some real money. If you’re interested in this sort of thing, start playing and let’s see if it’s something we want to use going into the future. If nobody’s interested, we’ll cut it off and go back to our regular lives.
Personally, we love this kind of thing. Interested? We’re limited to 400 users. Sign up now!

This is awesome. I really think this is a great idea to both help Tacoma think about the future, but for the community to help identify how lots of people think about Tacoma. Political Markets have been functioning insanely well for over 20 years and they are extremely interesting.
I would love to see a question pop up daily if you really want to push this. Perhaps I could help think of some recommendations.
