Proctor Safeway Reconsidering Pay Parking
The Safeway in Proctor is backing away from a change in how it handles parking in its auxilary lot across 25th Street. Last week Safeway posted signs asking parking lot users to pay $1 an hour to park in the lot.
The changes got more than a little attention. Now The News Tribune reports that by Friday Safeway was taking down the pay parking signs in the lot across the street.
It sounds like the original plan was to reimburse customers for the cost of parking in the 45-stall lot, and donate the proceeds from fees to a "district beautification project."
The TNT quotes a Safeway spokesperson saying that they are "reconsidering" what to do with the lot, and that they will probably just ask Diamond Parking to monitor lot usage to ensure parking remains available for their customers.
