Quiz Night ... What Do You Know?
This topic appeared in our forums, but we thought it could deserve a bit of front page attention. Besides, most of you don’t read the forums … so here’s what we want to know.
The new E9 quiz master is looking for some help …
I’m the new quiz master at E9 on Wednesdays. Which you all of course are cordially invited to. However, I would like some help coming up with topics, particularly Tacoma or Western Washington focused topics. We usually try to do one section of the three quizzes on Tacoma subjects.
For example, we’ve done Tacoma Parks, Washington State Parks, Major Tacoma Roads, Washington Rivers, and Islands. The structure of the quiz is that I’ll take a category, and ask questions to get the correct answer: This state park is entirely in Tacoma City Limits-Dash Point. This State Park features extensive old growth forest-Lewis and Clark.
However, I’m not a Tacoma local. I’ve only been out here six years, and most of that was spent in the UPS bubble, so I really don’t know a lot of the natural history and culture of the area I should. So, I implore the natives and longer residents to come up with topics to help me out.
We know that you have a lot of useless Tacoma trivia in your heads. Would you like to share?

Derek,
Thanks for throwing this up on the front page. Also, one category that already popped into my head is the wonderful bridges we have here.
Any other help is greatly appreciated.

A R: Your examples are fascinating and interesting to be sure. However, based upon what you’ve shared, I suspect few would have the right answers to offer. Not a great trivia night when all the sheets are returned blank. Maybe you have thoughts on something a bit less obscure?
My 90 IQ points and I are not especially gifted in the area of trivia. That said, when I see the question:
What was the name of the bear in the lounge of the Tacoma Hotel?
My answer is: There was a Tacoma Hotel? Check please…

haha, okay, okay. I’m sure we can do better. That is pretty trivial.

I suggest Washington bodies of water, including dam trivia (or damn trivia depending upon entrants’ level of success).

I know of three quiz nights in the Tacoma area…E9, Doyles, and the Ale House in University Place. All three hold quizzes on Wednesday. What’s the deal? Is there some sort of logical progression from Taco Tuesdays to Quiz Wednesdays?
Oh, for a Monday night quiz!

I couldn’t agree more with Erik (8). Why on earth would all the pubs compete for quiz night patrons. It seems logical that many quiz buffs would make multiple locations if they were on different nights. Come on bar owners, someone budge please!!

What about Washington’s many brewery’s & winery’s?

Schools? Politics? What used to be in this building? Rainer’s history? Heidelberg history? What things would you expect to shop for at any of our small and obscure businesses? This history of what’s on tap at E9? Bing Crosby lyrics? Famous murders and murderers? Haunted buildings and the ghosts who occupy them? (Halloween is coming)…
Suppose I could go on.

You can fiddle around lot with Tacoma schools – i.e. Which Tacoma school was named after the sister of a midwest oil tycoon: Baker, Gault, Annie Wright, Bellarmine… or native name places is good topic – i.e. Which word when translated means “the generous people:” Salishan, Nisqually, Puyallup, Sammamish? Etc etc, you kinda get the point….
