Ravenous Readers Book Club

Here at Exit133 we are big fans of local food. But between Grow Local Tacoma and our obsession with the farmers markets, I’m sure you knew that. For anyone sharing that obsession, we have some good news.

The Tacoma Public Library has selected Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver as the Tacoma Reads Together book of the year. (If you haven’t read it yet, do so immediately.)

In conjunction with Tacoma Reads Together, Exit133’s Whitney Rhodes and King’s Books have joined forces to create a food inspired book club. Officially:

Ravenous Readers Book Club

Join this community book group focused on reading books about food and sustainability. Issues such as growing food locally, the impact of commercial agriculture, and growing communities will be explored. The first book is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. Come join the discussion! We meet the first Thursday of every month at King’s Books, where books are available for purchase.

The first night will be March 5th at 7:00 pm. Future books will be Cod by Mark Kurlansky (April 2), Plenty by Alisa Smith & J.B. MacKinnon (May 7), and In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan (June 4).

Anybody joining?
