Real Art Tacoma: Bringing All-Ages Music to Tacoma

Here's something interesting to keep an eye on in South Tacoma: a group of community members has come together to open an all-ages music venue on South Tacoma Way.

A couple weeks ago a group gathered to discuss ideas for the venue.

Community members ... were invited to share ideas for the future music venue designed to provide young people a place to exist, express themselves, and find and build community. Creative-minded individuals from all facets of the community shared their ideas for the new space during the roundtable-style meeting.

The Real Art Tacoma website explains the project's goal:

Our aim is to create a space for young people to exist; to express themselves; to find and build community; to be empowered through art, music and the free exchange of ideas.

In addition to a performance space, the group plans on developing two spaces with other uses to activate the storefronts at other times of the day. One will be a consignment sneaker boutique called Thunder Dome, "exclusively catering to independent artists and brands." They also have plans for a coffee shop.

To fund their vision, the group has started a Kickstarter to raise $15,000 to get the spaces up and running. Supporter rewards include t-shirts, tickets to shows, and a "Thunder Dome surprise gift."

If you're on board with that mission, and have a little money to throw their way, you can give to the Kickstarter for another six days. At last check they were nearly two-thirds of the way to their $15,000 goal... Who wants to help them make it?

    Let the shootings commence.

What a stupid thing to write, Rory. Care to elaborate? Or would that require too much rational thought? Assuming that they hit their funding goal, are you saying you expect there will be shootings, or just hoping for that outcome?

That area of So. Tacoma has at least 2 legit over 21 music spots that I know of - maybe it has more. An all ages venue is an excellent idea. My concern is the Kickstarter funding source. Do they work? Are they good for the investors? How are the Defiant Goldfish investors doing?
