Red Light Cameras For Tacoma

The topic of the day – or even the last week – seems to be red light cameras.  It sounds like Tacoma’s getting them sometime this summer.  The City Council is hoping to vote on it by March 20th.  Do cameras decrease accidents?  Or are accidents simply accidents?  In the last few years, we’ve heard about several studies focusing on how traffic cameras are only meant to be revenue generators for cities and that they don’t actually increase safety.  At this point, we don’t know what to believe.  Maybe safety is increased.  Competing studies.  Competing industries and interest groups.  Smile…

    Could you explain more about the money they are asking for?
    Are they asking for money already in place for community events/activities/programs or just asking for $75,000 out of the general budget?
