Rescheduled: MLK Neighborhood Scoping Meeting
Reminder: This Thursday: The MLK Subarea Plan & EIS scoping meeting, originally set for January 19th and cancelled due to snow has been rescheduled for February 9th.
Status
The City of Tacoma is working with residents, businesses and property owners to prepare a Subarea Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood (“MLK”). The completed Plan and EIS are intended to encourage development and economic revitalization in the MLK Distirict on Tacoma’s Hilltop. The District is one of the City’s 16 mixed-use centers that are identified in the City’s Code as Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) receiving areas. Over the next 12-18 months this project will establish a vision for future public and private investments in the MLK District and will integrate these investments with the needs of current residents, businesses and property owners.
Comment on the scope of the future MLK Subarea Plan & Environmental Impact Statement (EIS): One of the first steps in preparing an EIS is to conduct a public scoping process to ask citizens and organizations for their concerns, comments and ideas. The City of Tacoma is hosting a public scoping period to gather public comments on the issues and opportunities that should be the focus of the EIS. The public scoping comment period will last from January 9, 2012 through February 10, 2012.
