Revels Mark the Fall Equinox

Architecture is Frozen Music,
Music is Liquid Architecture
- Goethe

The Tacoma Revels are about more than just Christmastime. They will be marking the fall equinox for the fourth year in a row with songs. They plan to “melt the Chihuly Bridge of Glass into music”.

Tacoma Sings! is a quirky, fun bit of performance art. Rain or shine, it’s about the joy of gathering, the joy of human voices joined in song – all voices (they are all singers).

A Revels chorus will sing at 6:30 on the Glass Museum side of the bridge. Then they will hand out music and sing for awhile on the bridge. Then the group will sing their way into the outdoor amphitheater by the History Museum and sing a few more rounds.

Bring a candle or a lantern to light as the sun sets.

What does “dress appropriately” mean? That is a very relative statement if you do not quantify it.

Sorry. Dress appropriately for the weather.

“We” are all singers. There is no “they” at a Revels event, only We.

Revels cannot stress that enough. If you join us, even if it is only briefly, then you are a Reveler. You don’t even need to sing, but we hope you will.

Thanks for posting this up on the front page. It looks like we will have nice enough weather. Hope to see many of you there!

This is an amazing organization with a charming beginning. Two students from Boston, Mary Lynn and eventually UPS religion professor and department chair Doug Edwards, had very much enjoyed The Revels in Boston. Eventually after moving to Tacoma and surveying the culture scene around here, they did a little post-grad research on the likelihood of starting a Puget Sound Revels. Wow! Their research deserves an honorary degree in Music and Theatre. If you’ve ever been to one of their stage performances which are part play and part musical performance, audience included, then you will know what I mean when I say this group is an audio-visual overload.

I’ve worked with them since the beginning, circa 1992, as a provider of marketing materials and the whole complex process of the Revels company development from volunteer help to union workers to volunteer performers to union performers has progressed year by year as an overall consistently high-class act.

And this is an act that everyone is encouraged to join in. Fa la la la la la la la la!
