Revisiting Washington: A Guide to the Evergreen State
The fine folks at the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, in partnership withs several state agencies and Tacoma’s very own Artifacts and Rusty George, have produced the amazing Revisiting Washington: A Guide to the Evergreen State. What is it? It’s a contemporary version of the 1941 WPA guide to our state. The Washington Trust drove the old roads using the original guide book, documented the changes, and have put it back together in a fully digital form. I was hooked the moment I saw how the pages turned. Then I found the footage of Galloping Gertie and the vintage radio clips. It’s simply gorgeous with music, images, film, and plenty of eye candy. The tours are included as pdf files. It’s not Tacoma specific, but it is our state.

“The slow roads are still there… waiting to be rediscovered”
It’s available as a CD from select locations or as a free download.
