Robert Hill to Write "Against" Tacoma Schools Bond

UPDATED

Everybody’s favorite incarcerated Tacoma gadfly is once again giving back to the community: Robert Hill has signed up to write the voters’ pamphlet “against” statement for the Tacoma School District’s proposed $500 million bond that will go to voters in a February 12, 2013 special election. The bond would raise funds to pay for capital improvements to repair or rebuild Tacoma’s public school buildings.

So far Hill is the only applicant since the Pierce County Auditor put out the call for committee members on December 21. The auditor will appoint up to three people to write the statement, but the deadline to apply is this Saturday, December 29.

If you’re experiencing a slight sense of déjà vu, you’re not alone; back in July, Hill was originally the only name on the list to write the ‘against’ statement for Pierce Transit’s Prop 1.

Is Robert Hill your voice in our democratic process?

Update (January 2, 2013): According to an article in The News Tribune, no “against” statement on the Tacoma schools bond issue will appear in the voters’ pamphlet. The only other volunteer for the job backed out, citing difficulties working with Hill, including a disagreement on message, and the “unusual constraints” of communicating with an inmate. Hill did submit a statement, but missed the Monday deadline.

Robert Hill could prevail on this.

If Mr Hill was unfit to write the opposition statement to prop 1, he is most certainly unfit to write the opposition statement for the school district bond.

Otherwise, the impartiality of the auditor’s office on these two issues has to be questioned.

Property owners are already saddled with an unconsionable property tax burden. School administrators are going to have to do more with less just like the rest of us. People who spend time studying their property tax statements won’t have any need to look at the “voters pamphlet” to make an educated decision.

The post was about Robert Hill writing the opposition statement, not on the merits of the school bond.

Since u feel so strongly about it though, maybe u should write the opposition statement yourself.

Mr Hill could write gobbledygook or even nonsense and the opposing statement would be acceptable.
