Rogers Elementary - On the Auction Block

Anybody in the market for a rather large classic Tacoma property? Do you want to relive your childhood dreams and fears? It has a view ...

It’s been more than five years since the last time we wrote about Rogers Elementary. The circa 1907 53,000 square foot school house on Tacoma’s East Side was sold in 2007 to a Parkland church for $1.6 million. A few months later it found its way back on the market for $2.8 million. Fast forward to 2013. Nothing appears to have changed and the property is now in foreclosure and available via Auction.com until June 18th. The starting bid is only $25k.

When we asked Reuben McKnight, the City’s Historic Preservation Officer, about the property, he noted that it’s a challenging property because of the R-2 zoning, its size and current condition. That said, it could be put on the Tacoma historic register and take advantage of a conditional use permit. Who wants to get creative?

It's such an amazing property with a great view too! I hope someone takes advantage to make this diamond in the rough shine.

Would make a nice house if it wasn't for the zoning.

It's the perfect size and location for an indoor urban farm. We could grow about 100 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables a year in that location. I know how!
