Roller Derby

The Womens Roller Derby season will begin in Tacoma on Saturday, April 5th, when the four teams of the Dockyard Derby Dames (DyDD) league face off for the first time in the 2008 season. This event includes two inner-league bouts and plenty of fast-paced, hard-hitting action. “We are hosting leagues from all over the region later this season, so this is a great chance for Tacoma to get to know their hometown skaters,” stated Jennifer “C. Jane Skate” Fetters.

Bout 1 of Season 2 will be held at the Tacoma Soccer Center (2610 Bay St. E., Tacoma) beginning at 7pm. Tickets are $15 adults and $10 for military, children, and seniors. Advance tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com or they can be purchased at the door.

Roller Derby, previously known for over-the-top staged antics, has become a fast growing sport in the United States, and is particularly popular in the Pacific Northwest. The Dockyard Derby Dames recent tryouts attracted 22 new recruits from the Tacoma area.

The Dockyard Derby Dames – Tacoma’s only all-woman, flat-track roller derby league – is a not-for-profit league run by the skaters, for the skaters. The players range in age from 21 to 48 and include teachers, nurses, estheticians, engineers, tattoo artists, moms, and lawyers.
